The town of Liverpool was founded in 1815. Washington was laid out adjacent to Liverpool in 1818 and eliminated Liverpool's identity.
The home of Alexander Bruce was utilized as a courthouse from April 1817 until 1825. There is a reference in the commissioner's records in 1817 to the 'Courthouse in Liverpool'. A Log Presbyterian Church may also have served as a courthouse in that same time period.
The two fires in the 1879 Courthouse were the result of arsonists. The 1929 Courthouse was victim of at least one unsuccessful arson attempt.
The Civil War Monument was dedicated in 1913.
