Early County Courts were held in the home of William Harrington.
The 1885 Courthouse was designed by three McDonald brothers of Louisville. It is red brick with strikingly contrasting white limestone trim and is similar in outward appearance to the Johnson County Courthouse designed by George Bunting. The McDonalds also designed the Washington County Courthouse as well as several in Illinois.
The Civil War Monuments were dedicated in 1865 & 1919.
There is documentation of a fire in 1935 but no information on record loss has been found.
