The 1859 courthouse is very similar to the 1864 Dekalb and 1869 Steuben County Courthouses except for the tower. It was inspired by the 1858 Miami County's Courthouse. All four courthouses had different builders/architects.
John Gaddis designed three present Indiana Courthouses 1905-1914, in Clay, Huntington, and Putnam Counties.
The courthouse lawn includes a Veterans Memorial.
