Courts were held in Marion until the 1821 Versailles Courthouse was constructed.
The 1864 Courthouse tower was significantly modified when the clock was added 1932. The clock was added after newer Courthouses were being constructed without exterior clocks.
The courthouse square contains a Veterans Memorial.
