Early Courts were held in the residences of Stephen Sims, Robert Thompson, and others.
John Elder designed and built the 1848 Courthouse. Elder designed Courthouses in Bartholomew, Clinton, Fayette, Johnson, and Rush Counties.
A.W. & E.A. Rush designed three center tower Romanesque Courthouses in Indiana in the 1890's in Fulton, Pulaski, and Rush Counties. Rush cost ~ $250,000, Fulton ~ $150,000, and Pulaski ~ $50,000.
Much of the roof level ornate structure of the 1898 Courthouse has been removed. A 1921 publication photo is missing the windows.
There exists contradictory documentation as to whether Rush County and Rushville are named for the same person.
