The 1921 courthouse was designed by Elmer Dunlap who designed Courthouses in Carroll, Pike, and Spencer Counties as well as the Rebuilds in Franklin and Jackson Counties. Courthouse construction was delayed due to WWI.
Fire September 3, 1833. This fire started in the Clerk's office of the court house. What records were lost is not clear.
Spencer County was the home of a young Abraham Lincoln and there are memorials there.
