The first settler arrived in Switzerland County in 1795 and a group of Swiss 'colonists' arrived in 1803.
The Switzerland County Courthouse copied the plan of the Jefferson County Courthouse. The two had different builders, so some of the trim is different and there are no side entrances on the Switzerland County Courthouse.
